About Staffs & Shrops LRC
|
|

HISTORY: The club which is known by many as "The S & S", was formed in 1964 by Geoff Miller and Jack Bellfield to cater for people interested in Rover vehicles, in particular Land-Rovers. We held our first trials event the following year at Ford near Shrewsbury and some thirty-five years later we still hold an event there.
The Club is a member of the "Association of Rover Clubs" A.R.C. which is an association of Land Rover Clubs both Nationally and Internationally, also the Club is a member of The Motor Sports Association (M.S.A).
WHAT WE DO
TRIALING (TYRO / RTV/ CCV / COMP):
The motor sports side of our activities provides lots of fun for competitors and spectators alike. Events take the form of: - Road Tax Vehicle Trials, Cross Country Vehicle Trials, Competitive Safari, and Tyro (Try Your Rover Off Road).
All the rules for the above classes of events are to be found in both the A.R.C. Handbook and the M.S.A "Blue" book. The club scrutineer is available to give help and information about vehicle standards.
To compete or drive in any event held or organised by the club you will need to have a full British driving licence. Rules prohibit provisional drivers from either driving in the competition area or on the Caravan Rally Field.
PUB MEETS: We also have a strong noncompetitive side, including several meeting venues around our area where like minded individuals can get together and talk about their favourite vehicle. These events are notified to all via the Club magazine ?Talegate' and the Club Website (http://www.saslrc.co.uk/).
With the non competitive member in mind we hold caravan/tent weekend rallies at some of our competitive events. Social Pub meets, are arranged both by the Club and individual members.
GREENLANING: Greenlaning is arranged between small groups of members. The club encourages this activity, but all are asked to respect the Countryside Code and the wishes of land owners. Our Green Lanes Officers are available for advice and for information about access.
ROVER RESCUE: We have formed a section within the Club called "Rover Rescue" the reason that this was formed was to assist Local Authorities in times of Local and National Emergencies, where the use of four wheel drive vehicles are needed. Some of the members have been given "Large Area Search" training by the Police in conjunction with Staffordshire Emergency Planning Department. The club is currently registered with Staffordshire Emergency Planning Department, Shropshire Emergency Planning Department, West Midland Emergency Planning Department, and by special arrangement West Midlands Ambulance Service Control HQ at Dudley. In short, to give something back to the communities of Staffordshire and Shropshire.
EMERGENCY SUPPORT: The club has volunteer members with land Rovers to provide emergency transport to St.Johns Ambulance at other events where conventional ambulances would get stuck.
TREASURE HUNTS & NAVIGATION RUNS: Enjoy driving around the countryside with your family or just on your own if you want. Find the treasure and win a prize. Lots of fun.
But most of all the message we would like to get across to anyone visiting this web-site, is that we believe most strongly that a Land-Rover club should be "Fun" and that whatever aspect of "Land-Rovering" you are interested in, should be for your enjoyment and approached without fear of making a complete fool of yourself !
