STAFFS & SHROPS OFF ROAD CLUB

Some of you may have already heard that S&S are finalising the formation of a subsidiary Off Road Club - this is for one reason only and will not affect the day to day running of the Land Rover Club. It came to our attention several months ago that members of any ALRC club are not allowed to enter in a non ALRC vehicle. As you know, all our comp safari's are held on open permits and many of the S&S drivers run non ALRC vehicles. We had two options - one was to tell these members to join another club, which we obviously did not want to do as they are members of S&S for a reason. The other option was to pull out of the ALRC, which again we did not want to do as the majority of our members are Land Rover enthusiasts, whether they drive a Land Rover on the road, competitively or not at all.

So after months of discussion and clarifying our position with ALRC and legally as a limited company, it was decided the best option would be to set up a subsidiary club so that we can carry on as before. This ruling does not just affect compers, it applies to trialers competing at open events too. All full and second members of S&S LRC are automatically members of S&S ORC, but we will not be issuing membership cards to everyone - they will only be given to those that request one. These membership cards will be available at signing on at all the comp safari's, but you may need one before our first event at May Day - if you want a card sending out when they are ready, please contact myself asap on cooper.26@btinternet.com

Can I reassure everyone that this will in no way affect the running of the Land Rover Club - it has only been done to ensure that our members can enter the events they want, and that our club continues to survive.

Simon Cooper - Chairman

 Dakar Rally  2012

Congratulations to our very own Jon Aston on completing this years Dakar. Jon co-drove and navigated/mechaniced for Australian driver Geoff Olholm's second attempt at the world's toughest rally.
Beginning in Buenos Aires, the race crossed South America, through Argentina, Chile and ended in Lima Peru, covering 8600km in 15 days. On one stage they finished 19th, and reached a remarkable 24th position overall, but a series of setbacks cost them dearly. The team completed the event finishing 50th overall, even after towing another car 180km on the final special stage and liaison to enable them to achieve a finish. Hopefully Jon will share his experiences with us in a Talegate soon.
We all wish Tony Sinclair
a speedy recovery to good health
